Super Eagles head coach Augustine Eguavoen has set his sights on securing six points from the upcoming double header against Libya in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Nigeria hosts Libya at Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Friday before traveling to Benin for the return leg on Tuesday.

“We must be practical; our best route to the finals is to pick up six points from these matches,” Eguavoen said. “This will guarantee our spot in Morocco even before Matchday 5.”

Despite missing Victor Osimhen, Eguavoen is confident that his other strikers will deliver the needed goals.

According to the NFF Communications Department on Wednesday, 20 players trained in Uyo on Tuesday, with Bright Osayi-Samuel, Kelechi Iheanacho, and Chidera Ejuke expected to join on Wednesday.

Nigeria currently leads Group D with four points, one ahead of the Benin Republic and two ahead of Rwanda.

Wins against Libya would take Nigeria to 10 points, securing their position atop the group.

Malawian referee Godfrey Philip Nkhakananga will officiate Friday’s match, alongside compatriots Clemence Kanduku and Joseph Nyauti as assistant referees.

Delgado Santos Rocha Lenine of Cape Verde will serve as the referee for the return leg in Benina.

Eguavoen emphasized the importance of securing qualification before the final round of matches.

“We will do our best to take our chances and have the ticket in hand before the final round of games.”
