N80bln fraud: Ali Baba Slams EFCC for failing to arrest ex-gov Yahaya Bello

Nigerian comedy icon, Ali Baba, has expressed strong discontent with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for its inaction in arresting and prosecuting a former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello.

Despite facing numerous allegations of mismanagement of public funds during his tenure as governor, Bello remains unapprehended.

In a fiery public statement, Ali Baba lamented the former governor’s continued evasion of justice, accusing the current administration of shielding Bello from accountability.

He pointed out that Usman Ododo, Bello’s successor, is allegedly protecting him, while the former governor is reportedly still hiding in the governor’s lodge.

Calling for decisive action, the comedian urged the military to step in, enter the lodge, and forcibly remove Bello, enabling him to answer the charges laid against him by the EFCC.

“I don’t even know what this country is becoming. So this is the same person who wanted to become our president?” Ali Baba said.”

Ali Baba went on to criticise President Bola Tinubu, the National Security Adviser (NSA), and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for allowing what he described as “political rascality” to persist.

He argued that if Bello had nothing to hide, he should face the EFCC’s investigation and prove his innocence.

The comedian further emphasized the inconsistent application of the law in Nigeria, citing the swift detention of activists like Omoyele Sowore and the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) by law enforcement, while powerful political figures evade justice.

“If it’s Sowore now, they will seize his passport. If it’s the NLC president, they will detain him. So the police are now stopping the police from doing their job,” Ali Baba stated.

The comedy king also decried how ordinary citizens are quickly arrested for minor offences, particularly online, while those accused of major crimes walk free.

He highlighted a glaring example: “The person who gave a Nigerian government official a bribe was jailed. The person who collected the bribe is walking freely.”

As of now, neither the EFCC nor Yahaya Bello’s camp has responded to the comedian’s remarks.
