AFCON qualifiers: Super Eagles held to goaless in Kigali

1k

The Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles, were held to a goaless draw by Rwanda’s Amavubi in a fiercely contested match at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.

Despite dominating the game, the Super Eagles were unable to break down the Rwandan defence, who put in a resolute performance to earn a valuable point.

The match saw Super Eagles Coach Austin Eguavoen deploy a 3-4-3 formation, switching to 5-4-1 when out of possession to maintain defensive balance.

The Nigerians had several chances, with Ademola Lookman’s goal ruled out for offside in the first half.

In the second half, Eguavoen introduced Victor Osimhen and Moses Simon, replacing Victor Boniface and Samuel Chukwueze, but the Rwandan goalkeeper Ntwari Fiacre put in a heroic performance to deny the Super Eagles.

Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame, who was at the stadium, cheered his team as they secured a crucial point.

The draw leaves Nigeria top of the AFCON Qualifier Group D table with four points, while Rwanda sits second with two points.

The Super Eagles will look to build on their unbeaten run in the qualifiers, while Rwanda will take heart from their resilient performance against one of Africa’s top teams.
