FCT’s Karu community calm, peaceful as coronation of new Sakarui douses protest

1.2k

The streets of Karu town in the Federal Capital Territory on Thursday were calm and peaceful, devoid of any protests.

Few tricycles and motorcycles ply the roads, while private cars are largely absent.

Karu Market, initially closed, has reopened with vendors showcasing their wares, but customer turnout is noticeably low, according to a Persecondnews correspondent.

The coronation of the new Sakarui of Karu has taken centre stage, captivating residents’ attention and diverting their focus from protests.

Banks and government offices in the area have shut down temporarily due to security concerns and a fear of attacks.

Apparently anticipating protests, Nigerian Customs officers took up strategic positions outside their offices in the area.

Meanwhile, a massive bonfire ignited on Karu Bridge at 3 p.m., completely blocking the road and halting vehicular traffic.

A video from Dutse Alhaji in Abuja depicts security men walking alongside protesters in a peaceful demonstration.

Mpape, Abuja, has deployed a significant security presence, while Maitama, overwhelmed by a large number of protesters, remains unaffected.

In Edo State, a striking scene surfaced, where demonstrators brandished leaves, sang, and danced to ‘Nigeria Jaga Jaga’ music, turning their protest into a vibrant celebration.

A disturbing video from Suleja, Niger State, shows the lifeless body of a protester fatally shot.
