Barely a month after his unveiling as Super Eagles coach, Finidi George has reportedly resigned.

Former Eagles media officer Toyin Ibitoye confirmed his exit on his official X handle on Saturday.

Ibitoye wrote: “News just in: Finidi George @FinidiGeorge_FG has resigned from his @NGSuperEagles manager position.”

The Super Eagles’ media officer, Promise Efoghe, has yet to respond to our messages or calls as of the time of filing this report.

Persecondnews reports that his resignation came after the Nigerian Football Federation hybrid meeting on Thursday, where they resolved to appoint an expatriate Technical Adviser to oversee the Super Eagles.

A communiqué on Thursday said: “The Executive Committee wholeheartedly apologised to Nigerians for the dismal output and subsequent very poor returns of the Senior Men National Team, Super Eagles, in four out of 10 matches in the ongoing qualification series for the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals.”

During his very brief tenure, the former Enyimba boss oversaw a 1-1 draw with South Africa and a 2-1 defeat to the Benin Republic, both in the 2026 World Cup qualifying series.

Finidi was only appointed on April 29 and unveiled in May 2024 to replace Jose Peseiro, whose contract expired in February.
