About 13 years after the gruesome murder of six National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members in Giade, Bauchi, the Bauchi State Police Command has announced the arrest of the suspected mastermind.

In a statement on Friday, the police command said that it took them 10 years to locate the suspect, Kabiru Musa, also known as Dawa, due to his notorious criminal background and the reluctance of many to come forward with information about him out of fear for their own safety.

Persecondnews recalls that Police Commissioner Auwal Muhammad, during a briefing at the Bauchi police headquarters, recalled: “On April 18, 2011, between 12:30 and 1:00 pm, a group of youth led by one Kabiru Musa, alias Dawa, stormed the Giade Divisional Police Headquarters following the announcement of the 2011 presidential election result.

“They were armed with dangerous weapons, including a knife popularly called ‘Barandami,’ cutlasses, sticks, and petrol (PMS), and attacked Police Constable Rifkatu Bappa, who was on counter duty at the charge room.

“As a result, she sustained various degrees of injuries and was immediately evacuated to FMC Azare, where she was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.

“The mastermind Dawa, along with his accomplices, deliberately set fire to a motor vehicle and a Toyota Starlet owned by Peter Okoye, which were being stored for safekeeping during the height of the attack.

“In a continuation of the heinous crime, Dawa assaulted Bridget Peter Okoye, Peter Okoye’s spouse, severing her fingers.

“The fire from the burning vehicle spread to the station, destroying it and claiming the lives of six NYSC members who had sought safety there.

“He said that despite the NYSC members’ efforts to flee, Dawa and his group pursued and killed them.”

An investigation into a purported criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide involving Dawa and another individual resulted in his arrest.

A police investigation revealed the suspect’s link to 2011 NYSC members’ deaths, and he is expected to face charges in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
