Bobrisky: EFCC faces allegations of selective prosecution of naira abusers

......as more videos of VIPs abusing Naira flood social media platforms.

Social media platforms are now awash with videos showing some VIPs engaging in similar acts with impunity after controversial crossdresser Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, also known as Bobrisky, received a six-month jail sentence for naira abuse.

The trial judge, Justice Abimbola Aogboro, sentenced the cross-dresser to six months in jail after earlier convicting him on April 5.

The sentence may have something to do with the new videos of naira abuse at parties and public events that are circulating on social media platforms.

More reactions have continued to trail the judgment with regards to the alleged inconsistency of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) concerning the prosecution of those abusing the national currency.

Social media users who posted several videos of similar offenders abusing the naira urged the EFCC to make their fight against such practices a complete one that would cut across all social strata.

They argued that selective enforcement has undermined public confidence in the justice system and fostered a culture of impunity among the elite.

On Saturday, Per Second News observed that numerous videos emerged online showing prominent individuals, including comedians, governors, and public figures, blatantly disregarding laws against the mistreatment of the naira.

Notably, renowned comedian Ali Baba recently accused the EFCC of selective enforcement, alleging that certain personalities who committed similar offences escaped scrutiny.

On the micro-blogging site X, formerly known as Twitter, fierce public affairs commentator Mahdi Shehu highlighted one such instance by sharing a video purportedly showing the Governor of Niger State extravagantly tossing money to a crowd from a moving vehicle during a Sallah celebration at Kagara in the state.

His video, among others, trended on social media platforms on Saturday as Shehu condemned the act as a display of immaturity and an affront to human dignity, asserting that such behaviour warranted immediate resignation from public office.

Per Second News also watched one of these videos, which featured a member of the House of Representatives tossing money into the air as a crowd piled on top of each other to claim their portion.

As the controversy surrounding Bobrisky’s case continues to reverberate across social media platforms, calls for greater accountability and consistency in law enforcement have grown louder.
