Junior Pope’s death: AGN, veteran actors go tough on movie producers, threaten sanctions

Following the death of actor Junior Pope, the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has vowed to wield the “big stick” on movie producers who fail to put safety measures in place that will avert the deaths of movie practitioners during movie shoots across the country.

Veteran actors, including Kanayo Kanayo and Jim Iyke, have also supported the move, issuing warnings to movie producers.

They noted the urgent need for producers to prioritize safety standards on film sets.

Kanayo Kanayo urged the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) to impose sanctions on producers who fail to uphold professional engagement and safety measures.

Actresses such as Shan George, Ruth Kadiri, and Ini Edo echo these sentiments, blaming the negligence of producers for Pope’s untimely demise.

They emphasized the safety of all cast and crew members and urged collective action to enforce proper safety protocols.

Reflecting on the tragedy, Ruth Kadiri, a producer herself, acknowledges the industry’s culpability in neglecting safety measures, while Ini Edo emphasizes the urgency of implementing stringent safety measures to prevent future accidents.

Veteran actor Sam Dede also mourned the loss of Junior Pope and underscored the necessity for producers to prioritize the safety and well-being of everyone involved in filmmaking.

He, however, said he would miss the actor, particularly when it comes to “delivering unbelievable performances” in the aspect of action movies, where his voice is irresistible.

In addition to issuing warnings to producers, the AGN is actively making plans to support the family of the late actor, Junior Pope, during this difficult time.

AGN, under the leadership of Emeka Rollas, is coordinating efforts to reach out to the Junior Pope’s wife and three children, offering condolences and assistance.

Kanayo Kanayo, along with other industry veterans, emphasized the importance of enforcing safety standards while also providing support and care for the families of actors affected by such tragedies.
