Update: Delta ex-Rep., Cairo Ojougboh, slumps, dies watching Super Eagles-Bafana Bafana match

Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu has mourned the death of Dr. Cairo Ojougboh.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State and former member of the House of Representatives, Chief Cairo Ojougboh, has been reported dead watching the Nigeria-South Africa semi-final AFCON encounter last night.

Ojougboh, who is a former Executive Director, Projects, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), a member of the House of Representatives (2003–2007), and a leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, collapsed and died while watching the AFCON between Nigeria and South Africa.

The politician was watching the football game at his Abuja residence when the unfortunate incident happened.

He was immediately rushed to Garki Central Hospital for medical attention, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

A source close to the deceased family said the Agbor chief died of what they suspect to be cardiac arrest.

He was said to have screamed when the referee who handled the match between the Super Eagles and the Bafana Bafana of South Africa awarded a penalty kick against Nigeria.

The deceased hails from Agbor, in the Delta North area of Delta State.

The family has yet to officially confirm his death at the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu has mourned the death of Dr. Cairo Ojougboh.

A statement by Special Adviser to the President (Media & Publicity), Ajuri Ngelale, said Tinubu received the news of Ojougboh’s death with a heavy heart.

“It is with a heavy heart that President Bola Tinubu receives the news of the passing of Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, former Executive Director of the, who died on Wednesday.

“Dr. Ojougboh was a member of the House of Representatives (2003–2007) and a leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State.

“President Tinubu condoles with the Ojougboh family, the government, and the people of Delta State over this tragic loss.

“While praying for the peaceful repose of the departed, President Tinubu comforts his family and urges them to find strength and hope in God Almighty, who presides over the affairs of men, as well as in the cherished memories and legacy of the late APC chieftain,” Persecondnews quotes Tinubu as saying.
