Barely four days after gunmen suspected to be kidnappers killed two monarchs in Ekiti State, the daredevils have again struck in neighbouring Kwara State, killing another monarch, a retired Army General, and abducting his wife and two others.

The tragic incident occurred on Thursday evening in Koro community in the Ekiti local government area of Kwara State.

The traditional ruler, the Olukoro of Koro, retired General Segun Aremu, was killed in his palace, Persecondnews reports.

Persecondnews also recalls that two traditional rulers in Ekiti State were wasted on Monday, January 29, by some yet-to-be-identified gunmen.

They also, a few hours later, abducted some pupils and their teachers who were returning home from their school in Ekiti State and demanded a N15 million ransom to free them.

President Bola Tinubu had condemned the killing of the traditional rulers and the kidnapping of the pupils and the teachers.

The President had also directed security operatives to ensure the rescue of the pupils.

Although the details of the latest attack in Kwara State are still sketchy, the Kwara State Government has confirmed the dastardly act of the gunmen in a statement issued on Thursday evening.

In a statement signed by his spokesman, Mr. Rafiu Ajakaye, Gov. Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq also condemned the killing, vowing that the perpetrators would not go unpunished.

He also condoled the people of the Koro community over the murder of their traditional ruler.

“Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has condemned the killing of Olukoro of Koro in Ekiti Local Government, HRH retd General Segun Aremu.

“The monarch was reportedly shot dead in his palace on Thursday night by some unknown gunmen, who also whisked away his wife and two others.

”The governor condemned the development, which he said was reckless, shocking, and abominable.

“He charged the security agencies not to spare any resources to track down the perpetrators, free the spouse and others taken away, and bring them to book.

“We will certainly get the perpetrators and ensure that this is their last crime against humanity. My profound condolences go to the people of Koro. Our hearts are broken, and we stand by them at this time and always,” the governor said.
