The impeached Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Olakunle Oluomo, and two other officials were on Monday hauled up at a Federal High Court in Abeokuta, the state capital, over alleged misappropriation of public funds to the tune of N2.5 billion.

The government officials are Dayo Samuel and Adeyemo Adedeji.

Persecondnews reports that Oluomo, who was impeached last week, and the other defendants were docked in court on Monday by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) before Justice O.O. Okeke.

Oluomo and others allegedly committed the fraud while he was in office as speaker in 2022.

Last week, 18 of 26 house members signed for his impeachment over alleged high-handedness, gross misconduct, arrogance, poor leadership style, lack of focus, and transparency, among others.

But he said he had approached the state high court to challenge his removal.

Shortly after the trio entered the dock, the court was informed that the counsel for the EFCC could not make it to court, which necessitated the adjournment of the case until February 29 and March 1, 2024
