Six people have been apprehended in connection with the harassment of National Assembly members during their visit to Gov. Yahaya Bello at the Government House in Lokoja on Tuesday.

Sen. Jibrin Isah Echocho, who represents Kogi East, expressed concern about possible thugs targeting him before the incident.

The National Assembly members who visited Bello were Sen. Jibrin Isah Echocho, Sen. Sunday Karimi, Abdullahi Ibrahim Halims, Zachariah Idris, Sani Abdulrahim Egidi, Abdulrahim Danga (PDP), Gowon Haruna, Tijani Ozigi, Danladi Aguye, and Salman Idris from the various federal constituencies in Kogi State.

Echocho, along with other All Progressives Congress (APC) federal lawmakers from the state, had gone to pay New Year homage to the governor.

Thugs allegedly singled out Echocho as he was leaving the Government House and accused him of being to blame for the APC’s poor performance in the most recent governorship election in the Kogi East senatorial district.

In a swift reaction to the incident, Gov. Bello banned unauthorized persons from accessing the Government House and ordered the arrest of the suspected thugs, while also directing security agencies to thoroughly investigate the matter and charge them in court.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Onogwu Muhammed, obtained by Persecond News stated that the lawmakers had visited Bello to “congratulate him on the successful and credible conduct of the November 11, 2023, governorship election, as well as express their loyalty to him and the incoming administration.”
