The pioneer Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, Ms Sadiya Umar-Farouk, has arrived at the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja over alleged laundering of N37 billion while in office.

Persecond News reports that the ex- Minister arrived at the anti-graft office at 10:00am.

In a post on “X” on Monday, Umar-Farouq confirmed her presence at the headquarters of EFCC.

She wrote: “I have, at my behest, arrived at the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to honour the invitation by the anti-graft agency to offer clarifications in respect of some issues that the commission is investigating.”

Persecondnews recalls that the ex-minister was scheduled to appear at the anti-graft headquarters, Jabi, Abuja, on January 3, 2024, for interrogation over the alleged fraud under her watch through a contractor, James Okwete.

She would have been the first guest of the EFCC in the new year if she had honoured the invite.

However, citing health challenges, Umar-Farouq officially wrote to the EFCC through her lawyer, seeking an extension of the deadline to honour the invitation.

An EFCC official, who declined to be mentioned, exclusively disclosed that the ex-minister sent her legal representative to the commission seeking more time.
