President Bola Tinubu has once again lived up to his billing by wading into the political crisis in Rivers State and calling for a halt to all impeachment proceedings against Gov. Siminalayi Fubara.
The President, at a closed-door meeting late Monday at the State House, Abuja, with Fubara, former governor of Rivers State, Dr Peter Odili and other stakeholders, directed that the political instability in the state should cease immediately.
Persecondnews reports that the meeting also resolved as follows: “All matters instituted in the court by the Governor of Rivers State, Sir Fubara and his team in respect to the political crisis in the state shall be withdrawn immediately.
“All impeachment proceedings initiated against the governor of Rivers State by the State House of Assembly should be dropped immediately.
“The leadership of the Rivers State House of Assembly as led by the Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule shall be recognized alongside the 27 members who resigned from the PDP.
“Governor of Rivers State, Sim Fubara, shall re-present the state budget to properly constituted Rivers State House of Assembly.”
The feud between Fubara and Wike saw the emergence of sittings by the two factions in the House of Assembly with the lawmakers loyal to ex-Gov. Nyesom Wike and FCT Minister threatening to impeach the governor
Amid that threat, the governor ordered the demolition of the State House of Assembly complex on the excuse that the building had been badly damaged by the explosion that rocked it late October.
At least, 10 pro-Wike commissioners resigned from Fubara’s cabinet.
