Twelve young girls, who were allegedly caught for indecent behaviour and soliciting sex at the Press Centre of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Ogun State, were on Wednesday slammed with stringent bail conditions.

An Abeokuta Magistrate’s Court imposed the bail conditions of N200,000 on each of the defendants at their arraignments.

Persecondnews reports that they were arraigned on a two-count charge of prostitution, behaving disorderly and in an indecent manner in the public as well as constituting nuisance.

The defendants, however, pleaded innocence of the offences brought against them by the police.

They are Abosede Adebowale, Olamide Balogun, Folashade Ogunleye, Opeyemi Akanni, Funmilayo Ishola, Ayomide Balogun and Tomisin Olakohun.

Others are Bukola Awonusi, Okiki Ogundimu, Jumoke Michael, Olamide Adebayo and Olamide Gbokiki.

Arraigning them, Police Prosecutor Olaide Rawlings insisted that the defendants committed the offences on Sunday, October 15, 2023 at Iwe-Irohin (NUJ) House along Oke-Ilewo Road and the Skate Ground in Panseke area of Abeokuta, the state capital.

Rawlings said the defendants had paraded themselves in “an unruly manner and constituting nuisance in a public place to wit prostitution and other sex work.”

She told the court that the girls were arrested by some policemen.

The offences contravened Sections 225A(4) and 249(1)(a) of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun, 2006.

In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs A. K. Araba, granted bails to the defendants in the sum of N200,000 each with one surety in like sum, who must be a registered bondsman with the Ogun State judiciary.

The case has been adjourned until November 10 for hearing.

Persecondnews gathered at the weekend that the girls were taken to custody at the Oba Correctional Centre (Prison) since they were arrested on Sunday.
