Pres. Tinubu appoints Dr Zaccheaus Adedeji as acting chairman of FIRS

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr Zaccheaus Adedeji, former Commissioner for Finance in Oyo state as the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) Acting Chairman.

Adedeji, replaces Mohammed Nami, who was appointed by Buhari on December 9, 2019.

Persecondnews gathered that the federal government and the states collected taxes worth about 6 percent of the country’s GDP which is one of the lowest in Africa and in the world.

Adedeji, who bagged his doctorate degree in accounting from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, will need to work closely with the government and businesses to develop new strategies for improving tax compliance.

With Nigeria’s tax to GDP ratio pecked at 10.8%, one of the lowest globally, the new acting chairman will be faced with the challenge to reduce the current number of taxes, block leakages in the tax system and raise more revenue for the three tiers of government.

The appointment is In line with President Tinubu’s commitment to attain optimum tax revenue collection capacity by federal, states and local governments.
