A week after inaugurating his cabinet, President Bola Tinubu on Monday presided over the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the State House, Abuja.
Tinubu had reeled out his administration’s Renewed Hope agenda to the ministers and urged them to cue into it.
Persecondnews reports that Vice-President Kashim Shettima, all the 45 ministers, the Chief of Staff to the President and other government officials attended the meeting.
FEC members had sang the national anthem and recited the pledge and thereafter, correspondents were asked to leave the council chamber.
Speaking on the meeting, Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, quoted President Bola as saying that he will replace non-performing ministers and for failing to meet the required standards set for them by the President.
He spoke while featuring on Channels TV Breakfast show, “Sunrise Daily”.
Ngelale said the president has a time frame for every “Renewed Hope agenda.”
“President Bola Tinubu is someone who has the results. He says ‘these are your benchmarks, I know what I want you to achieve, I’m not expecting you to just come up with some plan when you get there.
“I’m telling you the time frame within which I expect you to achieve. And if you don’t, there are consequences. He is ready to fire a minister at the drop of a dime if he is not getting what he wants. Absolutely,” he said.
The special adviser also spoke on the controversy trailing the size of Tinubu’s cabinent which has been described as the largest since the country’s return to democracy in 1999.
He said: “In his view, there was an urgent need for hands-on specialisation in the federal government.
“Based on the level of the deficit, if we can enhance specialisation and ensure that we slim it down, get housing into the hands of Musa Dangiwa, whose experience in reforming the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria as well as the reform of the housing sector, that is all he has to face.
“He doesn’t need to worry about power or works. The president said if I am going to put a minister in place who has a sole focus, there is no excuse for failure. And at that point, you can now say we can hold them accountable.”
