Five suspected criminals, busted for possessing Indian hemp and two bags of fake foreign currencies, are facing prosecution at a Lagos court.

The five — Bright Ahamefula, 26, Francis Omwukei, 26; Kingsley Ude, 33; Umar Idris, 37; and Eyo, 27 — have been arraigned before a Yaba Magistrates’ Court for possessing fake Pounds Sterling and US dollars.

The defendants, however, entered a “not-guilty” plea before Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun.

He ordered that the accused should be kept in police custody pending legal advice from the State Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

Prosecutor Rita Momoh said at their arraignment that the defendants were arrested on August 9, 2023, at White Sand area of Ijora near the National Theatre, Iganmu.

The offences contravened Sections 329 and 442 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015 (Revised).

The case has been adjourned until August 23, 2023.
