Following the scrapping of petrol subsidy by the President Bola Tinubu administration with the attendant rise of pump price to N500 and above, the organized labor has engaged the government in marathon meetings at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Persecondnews reports that at press time, the negotiation is still underway and the organized labour is led by the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero and his Trade Union Congress (TUC) counterpart, Festus Osifo.

On the Federal Government team are the Head of Service of the Federation, Dr(Mrs) Folashade Yemi-Esan, and the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd (NNPCL), Malam Mele Kyari.

Others are the Permanent Secretary, State House, Mr Tijjani Umar, and ex-Edo governor and erstwhile President of NLC, Mr Adams Oshiomhole.

President Bola Tinubu had in his inaugural speech on May 29, declared:”Subsidy is gone” and the announcement had triggered a raise in pump price by marketers across the country, while some filling stations refused to sell.

In Lagos, most stations were selling as high as N600 per litre resulting in increase in transport fares by about 500 per cent.

Persecondnews recalls that Kyari held a closed-door meeting with Tinubu on Tuesday.
