In what looks like a probable allegiance switch after leaving office, President Muhammadu Buhari has said he might “take a flight” to the neighbouring Niger Republic if Nigerians make the country difficult for him to live in after handing over power on May 29.

He said Niger Republic that is not far from his country home, Daura in Kastina State will defend him when he leaves office if anybody with force moves against him.

Persecondnews reports that in five days time, Buhari is set to vacate the Aso Presidential Villa (May 29) when he is scheduled to hands over to President-elect, Mr Bola Tinubu.

Buhari has boasted again about his cordial relationship with Niger Republic.

“If Nigerians make the country difficult to live in after the handover ceremony, Niger Republic will defend me,” he said at the inauguration of the Nigeria Customs Service corporate headquarters named”Customs House” in Abuja, on Tuesday.

He also reaffirmed that he will relocate to his country home in Daura, which is far-flung from Abuja but closer to the Niger Republic.

Buhari said: “I said these few things about my personal belief because I have only six more days to go.

“And I try to plan to be as far away from Abuja as possible. I came from an area that is far away from Abuja.

“I said if anybody with force moves, I have a good relationship with my neighbours. Niger people will defend me.”
