Persecondnews recalls that President Muhammadu Buhari had on January 23, 2023, inaugurated the Lekki Deep Seaport located in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State.

The official commissioning made the port eligible to begin commercial operations of receiving imports and shipping exports out from Nigeria.

The port received the first commercial vessel on Thursday, April 6, 2023.

The NPA boss said:”The fact that this vessel is departing the country on the same day it berthed is a fulfillment of our promise to deliver speedy cargo dwell time through improved efficiencies, and state-of-the-art machinery.

“I am delighted to assure you that we are committed to continuously improving on this milestone”.

Captain Monday Gajere, the Asst. Harbour Master for Lekki Port, said the milestone is proof that Nigeria is on the pathway towards attaining Port Hub Status.

Gajere said: “The thorough navigation risk assessment involving Pilots, Tugs, and Mooring gangs which set the pace for seamless berthing of the large cargo carrier is a demonstration of the Authority’s talent-readiness to maximize the competitive advantages that Lekki Port deep brought and state-of-the-art equipment it offers as Nigeria advances towards attaining port hub status.”
