The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Adamawa State, Mr Hudu Yunusa Ari, a lawyer, who went into hiding after declaring Sen. Aisha ‘Binani’ Dahiru of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of the controversial April 15, 2023 governorship poll, has been apprehended by the police.

Persecondnews recalls that Ari, who was suspended by INEC headquarters, had usurped the powers of the State Returning Officer and declared Dahiru as duly elected as governor while the collation of the results of the supplementary poll had not been concluded.

He immediately bolted and went into hiding after he was invited to the headquarters in Abuja.

The commission had disowned the results and directed the Returning Officer to complete the collation and announce the results which saw incumbent Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the poll.

President Muhammad Buhari ordered a full investigation into the electoral commissioner’s complicity in the matter and the role of the security personnel present at the declaration.

Confirming the arrest of the REC, a police officer, who did not want to be identified, said “Ari is now in police custody.”
