2023: Nigeria is in dire need of deliverer, not leader — Bishop Oyedepo

Ahead of the 2023 presidential poll, a strong voice has emerged from the church in Nigeria that the country does not need leader but a deliverer.

Lending his voice to the type of helmsman the country requires to take it out of the current socio-economic quagmire, the founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo, said only a deliverer and rescuer can bail the country out.

The popular cleric spoke on Thursday night during a sermon at the ongoing Shiloh programme at the church’s headquarters in Ota, Ogun State.

Lamenting the current security and economic crises in the country, Oyedepo recalled that in 2014 in the build up to the 2015 elections he warned Nigerians that the country was heading for trauma and catastrophe.

He urged the people to continue to pray to God to send Nigeria a deliverer so people could have rest.

“I think I am prompted by the spirit we need to pray for this nation. I warned this nation in 2015 that we were heading for crisis and trauma, many were washing their mouth. They are off today.

“God does not require consensus to raise a prophet. I saw a nation going down the drain, I cried. There are many prophets of politicians who speak what they want to hear.

“I have been very silent, what we need now is not a leader, it is a deliverer. Almost nothing remains except the church in Nigeria today that can be called a nation,” Oyedepo said.

“l’m not a politician and I will never be, l don’t belong to any political party. When ask God about the election He said to me a deliverer is what the country needs and not a leader.

“God sent them a deliverer in Israel and the land had rest for 80 years. Nigeria must have rest. We should be able to travel to Kano, Maiduguri and have peace.

“The destiny of Nigeria is hanging, the money distributors are still distributing money,” Oyedepo told the congregants.

Persecondnews reports that shortly before Oyedepo’s message, his deputy, Bishop David Abioye had introduced the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi to the massive crowd at Canaanland, Ota.
