The presidential campaign of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima of the ruling All Progressives Congress was flag off in Jos in the Plateau on Tuesday by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Persecondnews reports that a tumultuous crowd thronged the Rwang Pam Township Stadium, venue of the rally for the official launch of the country-wide campaigns.

Heavy presence of the Nigerian Army,  Police, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Federal Road Safety Corps was at the stadium.

Excited party supporters of the ruling party were seen brandishing their brooms and APC flags to adorn the occasion.

APC Governors, the National Chairman, Sen. Abdullahi Adamu, the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, host Gov. Simon Lalong, Senate President Ahmed Lawan, among others witnessed the event.

Tinubu told the rally that he was committed to the ideals of progressive, democratic governance in the country.

“Today I am in the historic city of Jos to flag off my presidential campaign. I have come with my party to reaffirm our commitment to the ideals of progressive, democratic governance and to the fruits that only such governance can bring to our nation and its diverse people.”

“Hope is back, Nigeria will be well. Nigeria will not sink. We hereby reaffirm our commitment to progressive good governance,” he assured.

Governors Yahaya Bello (Kogi), Ben Ayade (Cross River), Mohammed Badaru (Jigawa), Mai Mala Buni (Yobe), and Nasiru El-Rufai (Kaduna) who all spoke, promised to work for the success of the party.

Also speaking, Sen. Remi Tinubu, the APC presidential candidate’s wife, in the company of Hajia Nana Shettima, promised to carry along women and youths in governance if the party is revoted into power in 2023.

“God will make our nation greater than what is being seen, there will be food, there will be jobs.”

Ex-Plateau Gov. Joshua Dariye, who was recently released from prison for corruption, expressed the hope that the “electoral feat” of 2015 and 2019 polls which the party won would be replicated.
