Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) on Wednesday presided over a hybrid meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at the State House Council Chambers, Abuja, in the absence of President Muhammadu Buhari.
It is not clear if Buhari had transmitted power to his deputy via a letter through the National Assembly but Osinbajo as usual took charge at the weekly meeting.
Persecondnews had reported that President Buhari on Monday travelled to the UK for a routine medical check-up that will last at least two weeks, according to a statement by spokesman Femi Adesina.
Attendees at the meeting are Mr Boss Mustapha, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, Ministers — Chief Niyi Adebayo (Industry, Trade and Investments), Mr Rauf Aregbesola (lnterior), Sunday Dare (Sports and Youth Development), and Dr Adeleke Mamora (Science and Technology).
Others are those of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN), Agriculture and Rural Development, Mahmood Abubakar, Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investments, Mariam Katagum and the Minister of State for Health, Ekumankama Joseph Nkama.
Just before the meeting commenced, the SGF, Mustapha, informed the Council of the death of Nigeria’s first Minister of Aviation, Chief Mbazulike Amaechi.
The council observed a minute silence in honour of Amaechi, who died on Nov. 1, at the age of 92.
FEC had at its last meeting on Oct. 27, ratified the UN Water Convention on the Protection and Use of Trans-Border Water Course and International Lakes.
