There was bloody violence at the popular Alaba international market, Lagos, on Wednesday as traders clashed with hoodlums popularly referred to ‘agberos’ .
According to report, over 50 persons were said to have sustained injuries in the mayhem which was caused by illegal money collection by the hoodlums without any authorization.
Videos circulating on social media show scenes of the traders and touts wielding sticks as they engage in a free for all at the popular market.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the Lagos State police command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, has said the police are working to restore order in the area.
“Alaba International Market is calm. Normalcy has been restored. men of Ojo Division are on ground, under the supervision of Area Commander Festac, ACP Igbafe Afegbai. There is no cause for alarm as monitoring continues,” he said in a tweet.
Some persons injured in the fight have also been taken to the hospital for treatment.
