Today At the UN: Mali accuses France of supporting terrorism and condemns withdrawal of French troops

639

Mali’s Acting Prime Minister Abdoulaye Maiga on Saturday at the UN accused France of providing intelligence and arms to terrorist groups in his speech to UNGA.

Persecondnews.com reports that the Malian leader was seeking a meeting of the UN Security Council to present apparent evidence that France had violated Malian airspace and provided support to alleged terrorist groups.

He also criticised France’s decision to withdraw troops from the country last year, which he described as a betrayal.

“My country was stabbed in the back by the French authorities,” said Mr Maiga, referring to France’s decision to withdraw troops on June 10, 2021.

Mr Maiga sought to draw a distinction between the French people and French authorities, which he described as “anti-French” and a “junta.”

“The anti-French, French authorities have rejected universal moral values and betrayed the great heritage of their philosophers,” he said.
