Buhari, Blinken, Bill Gates, Dangote, Elumelu, Okonjo-Iweala, Zuckerberg, others for global investment forum in New York Sept. 22

In a bid to have another shot at attracting foreign investment into Nigeria, the Federal Government in partnership with the Africa Business Roundtable has scheduled Nigeria International Economic Partnership Forum (NIEPF), a global economic investment platform, for New York, U.S. starting off on Thursday, September 22, 2022.

President Muhammadu Buhari is billed to give a keynote address at the event featuring speakers and panelists including Aliko Dangote, the President of Dangote Group; Bill Gates, Co-Founder of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation; Satya Nadella, Chairman Business Council of the United States and Chief Executive Officer, Microsoft Corp and Antony Blinken, American Secretary of State as well as Mr Tony Elumelu, the Chairman, United Bank for Africa (UBA) and Africa’s leading philanthropist.

Others are John Kerry, U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, Mr Geoffrey Onyeama, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mrs Zainab Ahmed, Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning; and Abdul Samad Rabiu, Executive Chairman of BUA Group, who is also President of the France-Nigeria Business Council.

According to a statement outlining the programmes for the global investment forum given to Persecondnews, Mark Zuckerberg, Chief Executive Officer of Facebook, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, the President of the African Development Bank and Amina Mohammed, Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations are also engaging participants.

Listed for discussion at the various sessions are Nigeria’s Oil And Gas Sector: Reforms, Results And The Road Ahead with a focus on scaling up investment into the gas market – plants, parks, cylinders, reinjection, etc., and Nigeria’s Economic Outlook in the global economy.

Others are Growing Nigeria’s Agriculture, for food security and access to export market with the focus on Impact of the Russia-Ukraine War: Opportunities for G7/G20-Nigeria Partnerships in Agriculture.

On Nigeria’s oil and gas sector: Reforms, results and the road ahead, the Lead Speaker is Chief Timipre Sylva, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources with the panelists as: Malam Abubakar Malami (SAN), Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Malam Mele Kyari, the Group CEO of Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Ltd,  Michael Wirth, CEO, Chevron Corporation, Darren Woods, CEO, Exxonmobil, Mohammed Indimi, Chairman, Oriental Energy Resources, Patrick Pouyanne, CEO, TotalEnergies, Wale Tinubu, Group Managing Director, Oando, Kadri Simson, European Union Commissioner for Energy, and Christina Katsouris, Energy Intelligence and Associate Fellow, Chatham House, UK.

The focus is on Scaling Up Investment into the Gas Market – Plants, Parks, Cylinders, Reinjection, etc, the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline Project, Nigeria-Algeria Gas Pipeline Project
and conversation on international action to stop crude oil theft.

Persecondnews also reports that Buhari will also host a high-level presidential session with fellow presidents and heads of delegations on issues that need joint action for African countries, such as post COVID-19 recovery and financing priorities, Africa’s investment climate and market, as well as de-risking the continent.

Holding alongside the annual global gathering, the NIEPF is expected to draw the presence of world leaders in politics, economy, media as well as Civil Society Oganisations and international media to focus on the vast economic potentials of Nigeria and Africa’s leading economy.

Other issues slated for discussion include: Scaling Up International Resources for Healthcare in Africa bordering on: Upgrading and expanding Nigeria’s Healthcare Infrastructure towards making Nigeria the “healthcare hub” for Africa; Climate Change and Paths to Clean Environment with emphasis on Paths to Clean Economy, Clean Energy and Clean Development.

Financing Nigeria’s Infrastructure with emphasis on Developing infrastructures such as Farm to market corridor, Farm to ports corridor, Export transport corridor, Railway network, Road network upgrade and expansion, Airport upgrade, including dedicated airports for exports, Power generation, transmission and distribution are also on the agenda.

The event will be rounded off with the signing of agreements, Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the G2G, B2B and B2G.
