Kenya’s Supreme Court on Monday rose to the occasion by upholding the election of 55-year-old Mr William Ruto as the President-Elect of the country.

Ruto, who is the county’s Deputy President, was declared winner of the August 9, 2022 election by the Electoral Commission.

Ageing incumbent President Raila Odinga had filed a suit challenging the poll results.

In a landmark hour-long judgment monitored by Persecondnews on ARISE TV, Chief Justice Martha Koome dismissed Odinga’s suit and validated Ruto as the president-elect of  Kenya.

She said the petitioner had failed to produce necessary evidence to prove poll rigging.

“This is a unanimous decision. The petitions are hereby dismissed, as a consequence we declare the first respondent (Ruto) as president-elect,” Koome said.

The apex court, therefore, dismissed all the nine grounds of the suit.

Koome said the alleged irregularities in the election “were not of such magnitude as to affect the final results of the presidential election.”

With the victory both at the polls and the court, Ruto will be inaugurated as Kenya’s President on September 13, 2022.
