Gunmen have snuffed a mobile police inspector on Lagos road in a broad daylight, a police source said on Thursday.

The officer was gruesomely murdered in a commercial tricycle he boarded, Persecondnews reports.

The deceased, the source said, who was attached to Mopol 20, Ikeja, was shot on Wednesday at Coker Aguda, Surulere area of Lagos.

Confirming the incident, the spokesman of the Lagos Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said that the identity of the deceased would only be revealed after contacting his family.

“The command is making efforts to arrest those behind the killing,” he said.

According to him, the tricycle driver has been taken to the police station for questioning after the incident and was later released.

He will appear again on Thursday (August 25) to assist in the investigation, he said, adding the inspector was bank guard.

“He had left and was going somewhere inside a tricycle. He actually hired the tricycle and was the only passenger.

“He was attacked, shot, and had his service pistol taken away. It happened in the afternoon, around 3 p.m. But he died in the night,” Hundeyin said.
