633

After weeks of speculation and denial, the Lagos State Governorship candidate for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Olajide Adediran a.k.a Jandor, has announced the Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele, as his running mate for the 2023 poll.

Akindele from Ikorodu division of the state came atop of the list of four names penciled down as running mate to Adediran who defected from APC to PDP in 2021.

Among those shortlisted are Rhodes-Vivour and Kolawole, all from Lagos West, the same senatorial district with Jandor.

Persecondnews reports that party sources said some reasons informed the decision for zeroing in on Akindele.

First, she is from Ikorodu and Lagos East Senatorial District like the incumbent Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat and she is also from the royal family in the town.

Akindele’s name is expected to be forwarded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2023 polls.

Funke Akindele known as Jenifa is a Nigerian film actress and producer. Akindele starred in the sitcom “I Need to Know” from 1998 to 2002, and in 2009, she won the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.

The famous actress rose to fame for her role in the movie titled Jenifa which earned her the nickname Jenifa. The Omo Ghetto trilogy contributed to her fame.

Funke Akindele played the lead role in the show Jenifa’s Diary for which she was named the Best Actress in a Comedy at the 2016 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards.

Born on August 24, 1977 about 44 years ago in Ikorodu, Akindele attended Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta and the University of Lagos, according to Wikipedia.
