Few days after his arrest from his Abuja residence, former Imo Governor and presidential aspirant, Rochas Okorocha, was on Monday, brought before a Federal High Court in Abuja over a N2.9 billion fraud.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which is prosecuting Okorocha, arraigned him Justice Inyang Ekwo.

Persecondnews correspondent, who covered the court proceedings, reports that  Okorocha, who currently represents Imo West senatorial district in the National Assembly is being tried on a 17-count charge to the tune of N2.9 billion filed against him by the anti-graft agency.

Okorocha, who has been in EFCC custody since last Tuesday, May 24, had locked himself up and refused to give himself up for arrest.

The EFCC team had barricaded his residence in the Maitama area of Abuja in a hid to arrest him following his refusal to honour to their invitations.

After about nine hours of siege, the operators broke into Okorocha’s sprawling mansions and busted him.

He is also facing conspiracy with others, including a member of APC and five companies to steal from the Imo State  coffers.

Okorocha, however, denied the charges.

The second defendant in the suit, Anyim Chinenye, as well as the five other companies also pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Persecondnews reports that Okorocha’s family members and political associates present in court were denied direct access to him as a result of the heavy security around him.
