N23.3bn fraud: EFCC re-arraigns ex- Finance Minister, Bashir Yaguda

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has re-arraigned a former Finance Minister, Bashir Yaguda and four others before an FCT High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja, over alleged N23.3 billion fraud.

They were re- arraigned  on 25 counts bordering on misappropriation and for allegedly received fraudulent proceeds.

Others arraigned along with Bashir Yaguda on Monday are retired Col. Sambo Dasuki, erstwhile National Security Adviser, former governor of Sokoto State, Attahiru Bafarawa and his son, Sagir, and their company — Dalhatu Investment Limited .

The defendants are being accused by the anti-graft agency for allegedly diverting the funds from the office of the National Security Adviser between 2013 and 2015 to finance electioneering campaign in the Goodluck Jonathan administration.

They were first arraigned on 2015 before Justice Peter Affen who is now a justice of Court of Appeal.

They were later re-arraigned before Justice Husseini Baba Yusuf, now the FCT Chief Judge, Justice Yusuf Halilu.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them and they are to enjoy the bail conditions earlier granted by the court.

Halilu has adjourned the case until June 30 for trial and June 7 to hear application filed by Dauski ‘s counsel.
