The Police Force Headquarters has put all commercial drivers and management of motor parks nationwide on red alert on vehicles conveying prohibited weapons inside bags of food stuffs
It said suspected bandits and arms dealers are now bidding arms and ammunition in bags of beans, Rice and Garri and other food items being transported across the country.
Force spokesmam, DSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi disclosed this while parading 19 armed bandits’ and kidnappers arrested by men of the Intelligence Respond Team (IRT).
The 19 suspects of different syndicate groups operated in different parts of the country particularly along Abuja-Kaduna highway.
The FPRO said transporting arms and ammunition in bags of food items has become worrisome and urged Nigerians particularly commercial drivers to be mindful of goods brought in by unsuspecting Nigerians.
Persecondnews reports that a suspect, Dadong Audu, has already owned up to the crime of attempting to move arms from Plateau State and sell to one Chimezie Okolie in Nasarawa state.
Another six members gang of kidnappers were paraded for abducting a woman and collecting N1.500 million along Abuja-Kaduna highway.
Adejobi also paraded other suspects for alleged “culpable homicide, armed robbery and car theft” and promised that the suspects will be prosecuted in court soon.
Among the weapons recovered from the suspects include 50 firearms, over one thousand live ammunition and one pump action.
