The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, has given his office in pursuit of his presidential aspiration.

Onu, according to sources at his ministry, submitted his letter of resignation after Buhari’s directive at the Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday to the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

Persecondnews reported that Buhari had directed ministers and other appointees vying for elective positions ahead of the 2023 polls to resign on or before May 16, 2022.

The source said: “The Minister was at the office of the SGF to drop his resignation letter.

“That was expected as President Buhari has asked all the aspiring ministers and other appointees to resign.”

On May 6, 2022, Onu, a former governor of Enugu, had declared interest to run for president on the ruling All Progressives Congress platform.

The Minister of State for Education, Chief Emeka Nwajiuba was the first to hand in his resignation letter before today and was announced by the President during the FEC meeting.
