The All Progressives Congress (APC) national secretariat has been shut down following the tragic killing of its Director of Administration, Lateef Adekunle Adeniji, by his abductors.
Adeniji was kidnapped two months ago in Abuja, and despite a ransom payment of N50 million, his captors murdered him.
Consequently, the party announced the closure of its headquarters until April 14, 2025, as a period of mourning for its slain staff member.
According to an internal memo signed by Deputy Director of administration, Ubagba Abel to all staff members of the secretariat and members of the party, the Secretariat would be shut down until Monday, April 14, to mourn Adeniji.
Persecondnews recalls that the late Adeniji was reportedly kidnapped about two months ago in Abuja and killed despite the payment of N50 million ransom by the party.
The memo reads: “Secretariat closure for the mourning of the director of administration’, all the staff are advised to use the period of mourning for sober reflection and prayers for the family and the loved ones.
“The National Secretary has approved the closure of the National secretariat from all party/work activities with immediate effect till Monday, 14th April 2025.”
Persecondnews also recalls that Adeniji’s abduction is part of a growing trend of high-profile kidnappings in Nigeria, with notable cases including a former Director General of NYSC, retired Brig.-Gen. Maharazu Tsiga’s abduction in Katsina State.
These incidents have raised concerns about security in the country, prompting calls for government intervention and creation of state police which is stuck in the National Assembly.
