As part of strategies of facilitating easy identification of suspects and crime location, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Usman Alkali Baba, has relaunched and upgraded the Nigeria Police Crime and Incident Database (NPC & IDB) Centre.

The centre is to provide additional aids to police operatives to ensure a credible electronic criminal database to support investigations.

It is also to facilitate easy identification of suspects and crime location.

The IGP said it would also boost Global Positioning System (GPS) to geo-locate crimes, among others.

“The database will provide baseline data using ICT and biometrics to stimulate digital crime-fighting techniques, and accessibility to a one-stop data bank for professional profiling of criminal elements and effective crime data management in the Force,” he said in statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi and given to Persecondnews on Tuesday.

To ensure a well coordinated use of the centre, the Police Chief mandated the project consultant to fast track comprehensive training of dedicated police personnel who would man the systems across Zonal, State, and  Divisional Headquarters across the country.

He also  ordered a full-scale upgrade of all Police forensic laboratories and digital resource centres across the nation.

Persecondnews recalls that the upgraded Crime and Incident Database was inaugurated ed by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2020 to track criminals applying sophisticated  technology to perpetuate their nefarious activities.
