Three years after he was restricted to the Federal Capital Territory, the Court of Appeal in Abuja on Wednesday, lifted the movement restriction on human rights activist and convener of #RevolutionNow, Omoyele Sowore.
In a ruling, the Appeal Court said Sowore could now leave Abuja and travel any part of the country but should not travel out of Nigeria yet.
Persecondnews recalls that Sowore, the Publisher of Sahara reporters, was in 2019, restricted to Abuja by a Federal High Court following charges of treasonable felony and cyberstalking President Muhammadu Buhari among other offences slammed on him.
“The restriction of the 2023 presidential aspirant to Abuja was “excessive”, and is therefore, lifted,” the court ruled.
Sowore was arrested at a Lagos hotel by operatives of the Department of State Service on August 3, 2019, for planning to organize a protest, tagged “#RevolutionNow” against the government.
Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu had restricted Sowore to Abuja since 2019 as part of the bail conditions granted him.
