The second batch of stranded Nigerians evacuated from Ukraine has arrived the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja. An Air Peace flight carrying the 181 evacuees landed in Abuja from Poland at 6:35 pm on Friday.
Persecondnews.com had reported earlier that the first batch of Nigerian evacuees numbering 416 arrived the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, from Romania at 7:10 a.m on Friday.
President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday approved $8.5 million for the emergency evacuation of at least 5,000 stranded Nigerians, who fled to Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, and Poland, due to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.
The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mr Zubairu Dada, disclosed that three aircraft — two from Air Peace and one from Max Air — would be dispatched to the four countries to carry out the evacuation exercise.
The federal government also disclosed that it is giving each of the returnees $100 (about N56,000) to ameliorate their sufferings.
