A Lagos businessman, Okechukwu Okeke, who assaulted a policewoman at his Green Field Estate residence at Ago-Okota, Lagos, was Friday arraigned at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court sitting at Ogba.

Okeke, who was docked, is facing a two-count charge of beating a police officer and assault occasioning harm before Magistrate O.I. Raji of Court 11.

He had pounced on a policewoman (names withheld) when she went to the house to invite him to the police station at Okota following a written complaint or petition against him.

According to the police prosecution, Okeke, who imports ladies’ bags from China, committed the offences at No. 7a, Abba Street, Green Field Estate, Ago-Okota.

Persecondnews.com had on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, broken the story that a policewoman, who is in her forties, was beaten black and blue by the businessman in the line of duty.

The accused, who was in the company of some friends, started assaulting the police officer, gave her the beating of her life and injured her in the process knowing full well that she is a serving police officer on an official errand.

After beating her, he pushed her into a waiting tricycle (Keke Napep) and continued the assault; he pressed her to the floor of the three-wheeler, trying to strangle her.

As a result of the beating, deep cuts on her body and excruciating pains, she was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The magistrate, Mrs O.I. Raji of Court 11, however, granted him bail with some sureties.

Persecondnews reports that the offences committed by Okeke contravened Sections 174 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

Section 174 prescribes three years jail term for assaulting a police officer while Section 411 provides for two years for conspiracy.
