Insurgency will end in my tenure, says Gov. Zulum

Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, has said insurgency will end during the life of his administration.

“God willing, insurgency will end under my tenure given the massive laying down of weapons by insurgents in the state.

“Over 30,000 former Boko Haram fighters have surrendered and are in custody of the authorities,” he said.

Zulum made the disclosure while speaking with State House correspondents in Abuja after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari to apprise him of progress on the surrendering of Boko Haram terrorists and the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

He said state government did not offer any incentive to the fighters to come out of the forests, rather, they did voluntarily.

The governor also assured that the security situation in the state has improved considerably, and hoped that things would continue in that direction.

Zulum reiterated that kinetic measures alone would not end the insurgency war and therefore, advised that political solution be applied.
