A month after the National Assembly passed the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) 2021 and sent a clean copy to the Executive, President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday assented to the bill.

Buhari, who is currently being quarantined for COVID-19, signed the PIB which had been stalled in the National Assembly for over one decade.

Persecondnews recalls that Buhari has gone into isolation as required by the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19 after returning from London on Friday August 13 after a two-week medical check up.

The Act provides for legal, governance, regulatory and fiscal framework for the Nigerian petroleum industry, the development of host communities, and related matters.

The Senate had passed the Bill on July 15, 2021, while the House of Representatives also passed it on July 16.

There are indications that the usual pomp for the signing of bills by the president will be observed on Wednesday, August 18 when he would have completed the days of mandatory isolation.
