Nigeria’s First Lady Aisha Buhari announced on Twitter Friday night that she’s leaving the popular social media platform, less than 24 hours after the Buhari administration suspended Twitter operations in the country.

“I will be deactivating my Twitter account for now. Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” she tweeted.

Checks by this newspaper indicate the account has been deactivated.

A barrage of online harassers stormed twitter to comment on the First Lady’s actions described by many as ‘solidarity’ with her husband.

Many trolled the First Lady for being ‘anti-national’ or not a patriot, and brought her past controversial statements of ‘her husband’s administration being hijacked’.
