A bombed soldier has allegedly shot a Customs officer dead at Seme border in Lagos State, Persecondnews reports.

The tragic incident, it was gathered, occurred in the wee-hours of Thursday.

A witness, who spoke with Persecondnews, said the incident has caused tension in the area over fear of a possible clash between soldiers and customs officers at the border.

He said the soldier was suspected to be under the influence of alcohol.

“It is possible that the soldier was under the influence of alcohol because no one expected him to have behaved in such a strange manner,” he said.

Seme is a Nigerian community that shares a border post with Cotonou, the capital of Benin Republic.

Persecondnews recalls that following the closure of the border by the Federal Government, a Joint Border Task Force comprising customs, soldiers, Navy, Air Force and Immigration was constituted to secure the nation’s border.
