Breaking: NSCIA says no Eid-el-fitri celebration on May 12 again, directs Ramadan to continue

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) on Tuesday directed Muslim faithful not to break  Ramadan until Wednesday evening.


According to the NSCIA, the moon has yet to be sighted.


The Federal Goverment had on May 10 declared Wednesday, May 12 and Thursday, May 13 as public holidays to the end of Ramadan to celebrate the Eid-el-fitri.

But NSCIA President-General and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, said was no proven report of the sighting of the crescent of Shawwal, 1442 AH on the 29th of Ramadan, 1442 AH.

A statement by the Deputy Secretary-General of the Council, Prof. Salisu Shehu, said: “Ramadan fast will therefore continue tomorrow Wednesday, 12th May 2021 as the 30th day of Ramadan,” it .

“Consequently, Thursday 13th May, 2021 is hereby declared as 1st of Shawwal, 1442 AH and the day of Eid-il-fitr.”

It prayed that Almighty Allah should accepts Muslims fast and other virtuous acts in Ramadan and grant them all peaceful and blissful Eid celebrations.
