Moved by the plight of Nigerian students studying abroad on the ticket of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has strongly appealed to their sponsors to intervene immediately and pay their allowances, tuition and other incentives.
The Chairman of NIDCOM, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said payment of their outstanding tuition and others would guarantee their continued stay in the United Kingdom.
She said in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday that she had written a letter to the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, dated June 18, 2020, drawing attention to the plights of the students and urging the NDDC who are directly responsible for the students’ scholarships to pay.
The statement was issued by Mr Gabriel Odu of the Media, Public Relations and Protocol Unit, and made available to Persecondnews.
Dabiri-Erewa said her Commision counted on the Minister’s assurances that all outstanding payments to affected students would be paid.
There have been persistent calls by the students for urgent intervention as the deadline for the payment of their school fees has expired or about to expire.
Report said non-payment of their allowances had turned many of the students to street beggars
