For arresting and detaining one of its pastors and a staff, Christ Embassy has instituted a suit against the Akwa Ibom State Government at a Federal High Court in Uyo.
Pastor Emmanuel Effiong and a videographer, Gabriel Ekpa, were arrested over alleged breach of COVID-19 protocols and attack on the Monitoring Team.
ln the suit no. FAC/UY/FHR/106/2020, filed on Tuesday, the church wants the court to order unconditional release of the arrested church officials.
Joined in the suit are the State Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), the Revd. Ndueso Ekwere and the Chairman, COVID-19 Guidelines Monitoring Committee, Mr Enobong Uwah.

The church denied claims that its members attacked and brutalized officials of the state government who stormed its premises on Sunday.

“The state government is acting on falsehood. It was even the team that assaulted the church’s videographer,”  a statement by Pastor Kelvin Atang on behalf of the church said.
The church averred that the duo’s arrest and detention by the Police was a violation of their fundamental human rights.

“This action is borne out of malice, hatred and calculated attempt to malign the Church for disassociating herself from the Christian Association of Nigeria.

“As a Church that respects the rule of law, we had envisaged this gang up and also took steps to seek protection of the law by approaching the court,” the statement said.
