In providing succour for journalists as a result of Coronavirus pandemic in Abia State, the Unubiko Foundation on Monday distributed food items worth millions of naira to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Abia council, to cushion the effect of the partial lockdown caused by the novel coronavirus.
The Unu Biko foundation is a Nigerian non-profit organization founded by Mr. James Ume.
The Ex-Leadership editor, donated 100 bags of rice, 200 cartons of noodles and supplies to the council.
Umeh called on other well-to-do individuals and business organizations in the state to join hands with him in bringing succour to members of the council, during the presentation of the food supplies at the NUJ Press Centre, Umuahia.
Represented at the occasion by the chief of staff (CoS) to the governor, Barrister Anthony Agbazuere, Umeh stressed the importance of media practitioners in the campaign against the ravaging global pandemic.
Speaking after receiving the items, the council chairman, Comrade John Emejor commended Umeh for what he described as his timely and unexpected intervention at a time like this by a fellow journalist.
Flanked by past chairmen of the council, Comrades Ogbonnaya Iheaka, Hyacinth Okoli, and other executive members, he prayed God to not only replenish Umeh’s pocket, but to also assist him in his own times of need.
In his brief remarks, the project manager of the foundation, Mr Isani Benjamin explained that the philanthropist, having been a practicing journalist, understands the plights of members of the union across the country.
