As part of his corporate social responsibility, billionaire banker and philanthropist Tony Elumelu says he is assessing the feasibility of owning a Nigerian Premier Football League club, Persecondnews reports.

Elumelu announced this on Monday via his X account in response to a post made by Adebayo Mustapha, a different user, who said that the President and the Ministry of Sports ought to court leading businesses in the nation to acquire NPFL teams.

Elumelu said the Sports Minister, Sen. John Enoh had already approached him, adding “we are already evaluating viability.”

Mustapha believes it will improve the NPFL.

Mustapha whose X handle is @LawyerDayo, wrote, “Can we get the President and Ministry of Sport to weigh in on the big corporations in Nigeria to buy at least one league club as part of CSR? Imagine Dangote buys Kano Pillars, BUA buys Kwara United, Elumelu acquires Rivers United and Geregu takes over 3SC. Imagine the competition.”

In response to Mustapha’s tweet, Elumelu wrote, “This is a nice idea. The Sports Minister, Senator John Enoh @OwanEnoh, is already thinking along this line and has approached me and we are already evaluating viability,” Elumelu wrote.
