Sagamu footballer killing: Trigger-happy SARS inspector for dismissal, prosecution – Police

The trigger-happy operative of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) who allegedly killed the Assistant Captain of Remo Stars Football Club, Tiamiyu Kazeem, is to be dismissed and prosecuted, police authorities said.
Police insisted that the officer, whose name was given as Inspector Kaka,  acted unprofessionally  and his unprofessionalism led to the death of the footballer.
“And that is why he will be charged to court.
“The operative involved in the arrest of the late Tiamiyu also known as Kaka had been tried in the orderly room,” the spokesman of Ogun State Police Command,  DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi said.
“If he arrests someone from such a long distance, why didn’t he handcuff him?”

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, had on Monday asked the Deputy Inspector General in charge of the Force Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Department, Anthony Ogbizi, to investigate the matter.

PerSecondNews recalls that the late Tiamiyu’s family had on Monday insisted that he was murdered and called for justice.

The killing of Tiamiyu had sparked protests in Sagamu on Monday as residents took to the streets to ventilate their anger.
Oyeyemi said the officer had been recommended for dismissal, adding that the police were awaiting approval from the Assistant Inspector General of Police zone 11, Mr Ahmed Iliyasu, for further action.

“We have already investigated the man and tried him in the orderly room. We have also  recommended him  for dismissal but being  an inspector, it is not the CP that will approve it.

“The recommendation has been sent to the AIG zone ll for approval and as soon as it is approved, that guy will be charged to court,” the spokesman said.

He said the police had to do that, saying there are lots of misnomers in this issue.

“First, he embarked on an illegal duty, nobody sent him there and when he got there he didn’t deem it fit to book his presence at the Sagamu police station.”

Meanwhile, the police management team has paid a condolence visit to the family of deceased in Sagamu and promised that justice would be done in the matter.

Also, the Ogun State Government has called on the protesters to quit the streets and remain calm.
Gov. Dapo Abiodun said President Muhammadu Buhari had been adequately briefed about the incident and had directed the relevant authorities to ensure that the late Kaka’s family got justice.

Report said no fewer than five people including policemen were feared killed in the peaceful protest which later turned violent.
